Independent Trucks & Hardware

Independent revolutionized skateboarding when founded in 1978 by industry veterans who understood that trucks needed to be precision instruments rather than crude mounting hardware. The company emerged from a collaboration that initially offered trucks in 88mm and 109mm widths, immediately gaining traction among serious skaters who recognized superior performance when they felt it. The brand gained legendary status through association with riders like Tony Hawk and Jeff Grosso, whose videos demonstrated how quality trucks enhanced both technical capability and confidence during critical moments. Independent's influence extends beyond manufacturing to cultural leadership, with their distinctive cross logo becoming one of skateboarding's most recognizable symbols. Some companies make trucks; Independent made truck culture.
